The inaugural Open House Perth has been widely declared a success with almost 50,000 people braving the wind and rain to explore over 50 city destinations over the weekend of 3 and 4 November.
Open House Perth invited the public to celebrate the city of Perth and the role that quality architecture, landscape architecture and urban design plays in our lives.
Hailed as your ‘backstage pass to the city’ the weekend featured unprecedented access to 18 buildings and 14 design studios, 24 ‘Love your City’ destinations, over 70 guided walking tours, art exhibitions and family activities as well as loads of vibrant activity in the city’s laneways and malls.
“As Lord Mayor of our City I felt so truly proud that people 'seized the day' and took advantage all weekend of being able to see inside our buildings and admire them from another perspective. The inside view provides a sense of ownership of one's city and lessens the mystery. I look forward to Open House becoming an annual event. From the feedback I have had there is no turning back.” City of Perth Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi.
From heritage landmarks such as Parliament House, Moana Chambers and First Church of Christ Scientist to the newest contemporary additions to our city such as Perth Arena, Brookfield Place, State Theatre Centre on WA and Gordon Stephenson House.
Founded in London in 1992, Open House has grown immensely and in 2013 will take place in over 25 of the world’s most exciting cities including Rome, New York, Barcelona, Melbourne and of course Perth, who is the latest city to join the international network of this world-class event.
“The weekend was a wonderful first Open House and very much in the spirit of international Open House cities across the globe. It was very easy to see real value that it will bring to Perth.” Open House London Founder, Victoria Thornton.
